A cat bite may have led to an alleged stabbing incident this morning in Anniston, according to police.
Officers arrested and charged Paul Gene Estes, 27, of Anniston with first degree assault early after responding to a call on Cross Street around 3 a.m. A press release from the Anniston Police Department said Estes stabbed an unidentified man in the lower back after an altercation broke out involving the victim’s cat.
“He said that he was in an argument with the victim because his cat bit him and he threw the cat,” police investingator Sgt. Josh Doggrell said. “And it escalated from there.”
Doggrell said the report filed by the officers at the scene did not mention the condition of the cat or if the animal was present when police arrived.
The press release said the victim’s injury was non-life-threatening.
Estes is currently in Anniston City Jail, Doggrell said.
