Plans are being made to extend water service from Anniston to the Honda manufacturing plant in Lincoln. The Daily Home reports from Talladega Honda plans to invest more than $115 million to bring changes to the Talladega County facility that will add 50 new workers.
According to The Daily Home, the investment led to Governor Robert Bentley approving a $300,000 Community Development Block Grant. Part of the upgrades will see an extension of water service from the plant to the Anniston Water Works and Sewer Board system.
A planner for the East Alabama Regional Planning and Development Commission tells The Daily Home that Honda currently uses well water in their manufacturing process and minerals in the water cause problems for the plant. The Daily Home reports that Anniston’s water board will invest $830,000 toward $1.4 million project expected to take about 10 months to complete.
Construction will begin once a $250,000 Appalachian Regional Commission is approved and bids for the project’s contract are awarded.
