A bond hearing has been delayed for an Alabama grandmother charged with the running death of her 9-year-old granddaughter. The Associated Press reports the bond request by 48-year-old Joyce Hardin Garrard was scheduled for Friday but an Etowah County judge delayed the hearing until May 7. There is no information why Judge William Ogletree postponed the status conference for the second time in as many months.
According to the AP, Garrard has been in jail for more than a year awaiting her trial in the death of her 9-year-old granddaughter Savannah Hardin. Savannah died in February 2012 when authorities say she was forced by her grandmother to run as punishment for a lie.
The girl’s stepmother, 28-year-old Jessica Hardin, is also charged with the death but has been released from jail on bond.
