The state of Alabama spent nearly $14,000 on the raid of a casino in Shorter. State Attorney General Luther Strange ordered a raid of VictoryLand casino on February 19. The following day, WSFA-TV requested specific information from the Alabama Department of Public Safety concerning the cost for State Troopers to help serve the search warrant and assist with safety measures. WSFA-TV reports trooper assignments were at the request of Strange’s office totalled 40 hours to ensure a sufficient number of uniformed police remained on regular patrol. During that 40 hour detail, the Attorney General’s office seized more than 1,600 gaming machines and more than $220,000 in cash.
