When I heard about the following charity/service, it made me think...... Someone should start a service like this here in out community. I want to share this with WDNG listeners in hopes that this may speak to several hearts out there to get involved and make seervices such as this happen in our local community!
Fighting cancer is tough, but one business is working to make it easier.
Hubbard's Maid Service is offering a gift to women battling the disease that many say is invaluable.
It is called Cleaning for a Reason, a national organization that partners with maid services to provide professional cleaning services to women undergoing treatment for any type of cancer. Hubbard's Maid Service is one of those partners and has served the Coastal Empire and Low Country since 2004.
Sister Rose Mary Collins is the superintendent of schools for the Catholic Diocese and has been battling cancer on and off since 2008. She says she likes to stay busy to keep her mind off of her illness, but admits that normal activities can be tough because of her treatments. which is why she says it is so helpful to have Hubbard's cleaning technicians stop by to help her out.
"It's a matter of what is going to make a difference for you today. Because cancer patients are not always having a very good day,” Collins said.
Hubbard’s cleaning technician Renee Smith says to her, cleaning is so much more than a job.
"Just seeing my family go through it and seeing someone else going through it, it's really heartfelt. It's really heart-warming to be able to clean and make them feel good about themselves,” Smith said.
Cleaning for a Reason works with patients on a case by case basis to determine how often they clean during the course of treatment.
