No one was injured in a traffic accident Thursday morning that had southbound traffic on Quintard Avenue bottleneck down to a single lane for more than 30 minutes.
Anniston police Sgt. Jim Studdard said a 2002 Chevrolet Tahoe travelling north on Quintard Avenue was making a left turn onto 10th Street. A 1995 Nissan Pathfinder travelling south on Quintard mistakenly drove through a red light at the intersection and struck the Tahoe.
Studdard said it is common for drivers to see traffic moving in turn lanes and advance through intersection despite having a red light. He said there was no evidence that distracted driving was to blame. “Sometimes they just aren’t paying attention,” Studdard said.
Anniston Police were called at 10:24 a.m. and arrived on the scene three minutes later, according to Studdard. Southbound traffic on Quintard was shifted to the left lane while Anniston police and fire crews worked the scene.
Tow trucks were able to remove the vehicles shortly after 11 a.m.
