Wondering where to park if you go to a Birmingham Barons game downtown this season? The Barons have released a parking map plan they say will provide around 3,000 secured spaces within a five-minute walk of Regions Field. The Barons are partnering with Children's of Alabama hospital to use three surface lots within a two block radius of the new ballpark. UAB also made an agreement with the Barons to provide another surface lot anda parking deck on 18th and 19th Street on 4th Avenue that will be open to the public on game days. Other parking options include the Barber's lot on 1st Ave. North and the Ted's Cafeteria and Masco Fabrics on 12st Street. The Barons say the number of secured parking spots per person are higher than what was available to fans at Regions Park in Hoover based on the capacity of each space (10,800 in Hoover and 8,500 at Regions Field). Intelligent Parking Systems will also run 15 six-passenger carts to and from the parking areas throughout all home games, giving fans the option of riding from the lot to the game. "The Barons are excited to partner with Children's Hospital, UAB and Intelligent Parking Systems on this venture that will provide safe and convenient parking for all fans attending games at Regions Field," Barons owner Don Logan said in a release. "All parties involved have worked diligently to ensure that our gameday parking plan is secure and convenient for everyone." The Barons add that Birmingham police officers will also be stationed on every route between Regions Field and the parking areas. The streets around Regions Field will also be patrolled on a regular basis during home games. "The City of Birmingham continues to work to provide the best overall baseball experience at the new Regions Field," said Mayor William Bell. "We look forward to the first pitch and a sell out crowd." The Barons play their first game April 10 against the Mississippi Braves.
