The Tuscaloosa Police Department is investigating the death of a 19-year-old University of Alabama student who is believed to have died from a drug overdose. Baker Mims, a 2011 graduate of Vestavia Hills High School, was found dead in his off-campus apartment at the Woodlands of Tuscaloosa Wednesday afternoon and investigators said they found a hypodermic needle at the location believed to have been used by the victim to shoot heroin. Capt. Loyd Baker reports that officers made an arrest at the apartment after finding a 19-year-old man asleep in Mims' bed and in possession of drugs. The suspect told officers that Mims had used heroin and admitted to purchasing drugs with the victim.
Investigators have yet to release an official cause of death as they await an autopsy report from the coroner's office. In February, another man was found dead of a drug overdose at an apartment at The Woodlands.
