The Alabama Department of Public Health released a statement on Tuesday saying there is an ongoing investigation into whether an unlicensed abortion or reproductive health center is being operated in Birmingham’s south side.
The New Woman All Women Health Care center was formerly operated at that 17th St. S. location and last year the Department of Public Health forced the clinic to close after “serious violations of the State Board of Health’s Rules for Abortion or Reproductive Health Centers.” Since last May, the department has denied two separate applications for license to operate the clinic. The first denial was unsuccessfully appealed in August.
The Alabama Department of Public Health said they will not comment on the status of open investigations.
