A preliminary report released by the National Weather Service in Birmingham says an EF-1 tornado touched down in the Etowah County town of Sardis City. Meteorologists surveyed damage in northern Etowah County and determined a tornado with winds between 95 and 105 mph first touched down in Marshall County on Monday afternoon.
Damage from the possible tornado included uprooted pine trees and an overturned a tractor trailer and camper. Several mobile homes were reportedly overturned or destroyed and one person was left seriously injured. According to the report released early on Wednesday, the EF-1 tornado lasted about five minutes and travelled nearly eight full miles before dissipating as it reached the Appalachian mountains.
The National Weather Service in Huntsville also issued a preliminary report which believes a pair of EF-2 tornadoes touched down in DeKalb County, causing major damage but leaving no serious injuries.
