If your commute takes you along I-20, a big detour may be coming your way in about a month. The Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) is preparing for a repaving project. It will be done in two parts between the 1-20/59 split and the I-459 interchange and ALDOT will be completely shutting down those lanes during the work.
The I-20 eastbound lanes will be repaved first and then the westbound lanes will be repaved. ALDOT says that each section will take 90 days to complete. They expect to begin work April 8 and some people in the area are already preparing themselves for the big inconvenience.
