An investigation is underway in Gadsden involving the death of a 20 month old child. Investigators say Maliyah Tashay Lindsay had been missing since March 5th. The child's body was later found in a wooded area at the dead end of Plainview Street. Tasmine Thomas, the child's mother, told police that the father, Stephon Lindsay, was going to take the child to his sister's house for a few days. Tasmine said she was asleep when Stephon actually took the child, on March 5th, and that he was back home the next morning. A week later, Tasmine told Stephon she wanted to pick up her daughter. He said he would go with her. Stephon then left to get gas for his car and then picked up the child from his sister's house. After a short time had passed, Tasmine called the sister. According to the sister, she had not seen Stephon nor the baby in several weeks. Tasmine tried calling Stephon but got no response. That's when she called police. Stephon Lindsay was arrested Tuesday night. Right now, he's being held at the Etowah County Jail without bond. Shortly after his arrest, the body of Maliyah Lindsay was found. Gadsden police say a large knife or a sword may be linked to the girl's death. The investigation is ongoing.
