Governor Robert Bentley is offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction in the death of a retired University of Alabama professor. Bentley announced the reward on Monday after 73 year-old Kate Ragsdale was found dead in her home on Feb. 24.
AL.com reports Ragsdale was seen by friends a few days before her body was discovered and an autopsy found the cause of death to be sharp force injury. Tuscaloosa County police are working with a retired FBI profiler who said the offender is probably younger in age and lived near the victim.
Police had received dozens of tips by last week and are investigating similar homicides from across the country. According to AL.com, Ragsdale began working for the University of Alabama in 1979 and retired in 2006.
