Donoho School student Meghana Giri on Saturday took the top spot at the Alabama State Spelling Bee in Birmingham when she accurately spelled the word “inaccurate.” According to The Anniston Star, Giri has participated in bees since her fifth grade year and has advanced through Calhoun County Spelling Bees to the state level for the past three years.
As a result of her weekend win at the state level, Giri will travel to Washington D.C. at the end of May to compete in the Scripps Spelling Bee. This will be the last year Giri is eligible to compete and she told The Star that going to the national competition is the perfect way to end her time with the spelling bee.
The Scripps Spelling Bee will be the final week in May and will be televised nationally on ESPN.
