The Anniston Fire Department was called to a blaze around 3 p.m. on Saturday that was consuming the local ServiceMaster business. The Anniston Star reports the entire department was on scene with four pumper trucks and one aerial-ladder truck while Oxford and Jacksonville fire departments provided backup in the area.
Anniston Fire Chief Tony Taylor told The Star that nobody was injured but there were some tense moments after a small explosion. Firefighters were able to keep the flames away from neighboring buildings but Taylor estimates the century-old building at 2 West Third Street will be a total loss.
He said once the fire was under control, a two-story brick wall posed a risk of crashing down. Authorities kept Noble Street closed through Saturday night until the wall could be torn down.
