UPDATE: Police have a suspect in custody. John Mason was taken into custody just before 11:00 am Saturday. Mason was recenty released from prison and is known for committing thefts in Jefferson County, Woodstock, Calera, and Hoover.
Police were called out to a vehicle theft Saturday morning around 9:30am at the Chevron on Park Road in Pleasant Grove. Two small kids, a 3 and a 5-year-old, were in a 2005 Chevy Tahoe at the time that it was taken.
Witnesses to the gas station incident says that a man went inside to buy drinks for his kids. When he exited the store, the Chevy Tahoe was gone.
Pleasant Grove officials have stated that the kids were located just after 10am and are safe.
The suspect has been described as a heavy set, white male. Police are still trying to located him.
