Workplace disasters can be anything from a fire, to a broken pipe to a terrorist attack, and business leaders need to be prepared. That was the message at a workplace seminar sponsored by the Etowah County Sheriff's Office today. More than a hundred people attended the session. Most were business people but there were also government officials looking for tips to protect their office workers. Safety trainer Tina Lewis Rowe, a former U.S. Marshal, told the group they should have ongoing assessments, plans and procedures, and should make their employees aware of risks. She said many of her points can be used in a typical home as well. "That's what individuals ought to do in their own home. They ought to walk from room to room in their home and say, 'What could go wrong here? And would everybody that uses this room know what to do if that thing were to go wrong?' It's just a great way to plan your life," Rowe said. Tomorrow Rowe will speak to law enforcement officers from across the state, and Saturday she'll address clergy and representatives from various houses of worship. The seminars are at Gadsden State Community College.
