Nearly 50 people marched through downtown Anniston on Wednesday to protest the handling of settlement money from a 2003 court case against Monsanto. According to WEAC-TV, former Anniston City Councilman Ben Little led the protest which marched one block from the Anniston City Hall to the Calhoun County Courthouse.
Protesters say victims from chemical hazards hidden by Monsanto for decades have seen little of the roughly $75 million payout handled by the Calhoun County court system. Little told WEAC-TV that he would like to see Donald Stewart, who was named trustee of the Monsanto fund, testify under oath concerning the fate of the money.
Protesters were turned away from courthouse steps by sheriff’s deputies but continued their actions in a nearby alley.
