Alabama Rep. Mike Rogers met with U.S. Army Material Command Gen. Dennis L. Via on Thursday to talk about military readiness two days before automatic budget cuts are scheduled to take effect. Military and civilian leaders of the DOD also attended the event where Rogers said President Barack Obama’s sequester is a threat to not only jobs but also to national security.
A release from the Republican’s office says he also sent a letter to Major General Frank D. Turner III late last week to request information from the Army on any workload from foreign military sales that could go to the Anniston Army Depot. He said in the letter “the entire community is working hard to ensure we leave no stone unturned when it comes to strengthening and securing the Depot, and all other Third District military facilities.”
Automatic budget cuts are scheduled to take effect on Friday.
