The Cherokee County Health Department says they will begin following up on notifications issued for sewage violations at Weiss Lake. A Sewage Disposal Ordinance became effective in July that sets guidelines for recreation vehicles and other dwellings within the Alabama Power Co. Flood Easement. The ordinance says that any establishment without access to a sewage system must have a holding tank approved by the county health department. An officer with the Alabama Department of Public Health said in a release Monday that around 1,000 notices have been issued and many have been ignored. Officials will begin following up on the notices this week and issuing citations to any violations. Penalties can include a fine of $150 per day up to $5,000.
