A 58-year-old Center Point Elementary School teacher died Thursday morning in a car accident on Alabama Highway 79 at Pawnee Road. Elaine Rollins Peterson, a special education teacher from Homewood, was killed after the SUV she was driving struck a service truck turning left off of Hwy. 70 North on to Pawnee Road.
The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office believes speed may have been a factor in the crash. The three occupants in the truck were not injured.
