Local independent film enthusiasts will have an opportunity to collaborate with others tonight in an effort to energize film making in East-Central Alabama.
The group Yellowhammer Filmmakers of Northeast Alabama will be holding their monthly meeting at the Peerless Bar and Grill in downtown Anniston Thursday evening. Annie Brunson is organizing tonight’s meeting and she said it is to help local residents interested in filmmaking network with others in the area.
Brunson said two award-winning films will be screened for guests along with a short video about the Northeast Alabama Entertainment Initiative. She wants the Yellowhammer Filmmakers to work with the Entertainment Initiative in marketing northeast Alabama as “film-friendly” for independent filmmakers as well as major commercial films and television.
As well as working with Yellowhammer Filmmakers, Brunson is also an award-winning film composer and has produced Anniston Morning Rotary’s Dancing With Our Stars annual fundraiser for four years. She said she is excited to be using tonight’s meeting as a way to meet fellow filmmakers as well as local film enthusiasts that might be interested in other aspects of movie-making.
She expects to see a wide range of people from actors, directors, and cinematographers at the meeting, along with photographers, hairdressers, and carpenters. Brunson said JSU Film Technology Artist in Residence Jeffrey Nichols will also be on hand at tonight’s event. Nichols and Brunson have had several discussions regarding the importance of a grass-roots film movement that has the potential to provide an artistic outlet for locals and attract tourism with filming locations and film festivals.
Tonight’s event at the Peerless Bar and Grill in downtown Anniston is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.
