Gov. Robert Bentley announced a tax-free holiday weekend in Alabama and recommends people take advantage of the tax-free weekend on items like NOAA weather radios, flashlights, and first aid kits.
According to a Wednesday release from the governor’s office, items to be used during emergencies that cost less than $60 are eligible to be tax-free beginning Friday. Also covered are items designed to protect windows such as plywood and duct tape, plastic sheeting, and fuel containers. Power generators which cost less than $1,000 will also be eligible.
Along with the state tax-holiday, Calhoun County and many cities and towns within will also be participating in the tax holiday this weekend. The tax-free weekend on severe weather items comes at the end of Severe Weather Awareness Week across Alabama and the nation.
According to the Alabama Department of Revenue, participating areas include:
