According to The Anniston Star, Calhoun County Animal Control Center director Dani LaPlant notified County Administrator Ken Joiner on Wednesday she will be resigning from her post as director effective March 1. LaPlant was hired in January after former director Charles McDonald retired last fall.
LaPlant declined to tell The Star details behind her decision, only saying she now has an opportunity to go in a different direction in her career. LaPlant said the short turnaround was unexpected but she still plans on volunteering at the county animal control center. The center is facilitated by the Calhoun County Animal Control Board, a committee formed last year after complaints and investigations stemming from allegations of inhumane treatment of the animals.
A county official told The Star that applications for the job are being accepted and that the board and County Commission will have to set an appropriate salary for a new director.
