The Birmingham Police Department reports that detectives are conducting a homicide investigation. The victim was discovered on Friday at approximately 4:30 p.m., at the intersection of 41st Street North and Messer-Airport Highway.
The victim has been identified as Andrew Martin, 22, of Leeds.
A South Precinct Task Force officer was alerted by a citizen that the victim was unresponsive inside his 2001 Honda Prelude at the traffic signal. The officer notified Birmingham Fire and Rescue who responded and transported the victim to UAB Hospital for treatment.
Hospital staff pronounced the victim deceased shortly after arrival. Upon further examination by hospital staff, the victim was found to have suffered a gunshot wound. The victim was known to frequent the Avondale Housing Community. The exact location of the shooting incident is unknown at this time.
