A Sunday morning traffic stop on Interstate 20 leads to area law enforcement officers combing the woods for a truck thief.
The Anniston Star reports an Alabama State Trooper stopped a westbound commercial truck near the Heflin exit on I-20 shortly after 9 a.m. because its load was improperly secured. Alabama State Trooper Charles Dysart told The Star that the driver of the truck pulled over and then jumped out from the passenger side and ran into the woods.
Heflin police and the Cleburne County Sheriff’s Department were called to assist in searching for the driver. The driver was not found, but a second man was arrested for interfering with governmental operations after he was accused of trying to prevent the State Trooper from pulling over the truck.
It was later discovered that the man who was arrested was using a cell phone to communicate with the man driving the truck which was reported stolen. No names were released in the report.
