An overnight break-in at an area elementary school delays the start of classes for some children. Wellborn Elementary School was the victim of burglary sometime between Thursday night and Friday morning.
Anniston Police said on their Facebook page that school personnel first made the discovery before classes started Friday. Anniston police Lt. Fred Forsythe said Friday morning that rumors about the school being on lockdown stemmed from students being sent to the gymnasium while the crime scene was processed.
Forsythe said neither students nor staff were ever in danger.
Forsyth said the investigation is ongoing and the police department is following several leads. No major damage to the school was initially reported, but Forsythe says that a couple of laptops and loose cash from offices were taken.
No arrests have been made in the case.
