A new task force will look at school safety in Calhoun County. The group will include police officers, deputies and teachers. It comes in the wake of the Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre in Newtown, Connecticut. Sheriff Larry Amerson says he wants to take a closer look at the strategies of the Calhoun County Board of Education in dealing with security, just as he's done in the past. The sheriff's office currently has seven school resource officers in various parts of the county.
