The Calhoun County Commission met Thursday morning for their monthly meeting and recognized former commissioner Eli Henderson’s 18 years of service before moving to the position of circuit clerk. Henderson was in the audience rather than the vacant commissioner’s seat and was presented with a picture frame on which county employees wrote messages. A photograph of the commission along with Henderson was taken immediately after the meeting.
The commission then moved on to new business, which included appropriating $9,800 for the Northeast Alabama Business Incubator System to promote and develop industrial and manufacturing interests in Calhoun County.
A 3-year agreement was also approved between the Alabama Department of Environmental Management and Calhoun County for tire remediation. The agreement says ADEM will reimburse the county up to $300,000 for tire removal from Calhoun County roadways by county employees.
The board unanimously approved a contract with J.M. Wood Auction Co., which guarantees at least $3.2 million in gross sales of old county equipment and trucks with J.M. Wood Auction Company receiving 6 percent of the sales.
The final order of business for the Calhoun County Commission on Thursday was extending the contract of Stacey Johnson as a nutritionist at the Calhoun County Jail. Johnson has served as jail nutritionist since 2009. Thursday’s employment contract extension will have Johnson in that position until at least November.
