State officials met with the director of a national law enforcement group last week to discuss grant programs available to the state. Cabell Cropper, executive director for the National Criminal Justice Association, met with ADECA Director Jim Byard Jr. and Governor Bentley’s Chief of Staff David Perry last Wednesday and Thursday to see how federal grant money is used by the state of Alabama.
The Washington, D.C.-based National Criminal Justice Association offers support and technical assistance to state agencies that administer federal grants offered by the Department of Justice. Last week’s meeting was the associations first visit to the state.
According to a release late last week, Cropper met with staff members from ADECA’s Law Enforcement and Traffic Safety Division. The division distributed nearly $25 million in grants to law enforcement, juvenile rehabilitation, and crime victims across Alabama in 2012.
ADECA Director Jim Byard Jr. said he was delighted to confer with the National Criminal Justice Association about way to strengthen programs offered on behalf of Alabama residents.
