Governor Robert Bentley on Tuesday announced the creation of a statewide effort that will better prepare Alabama students for careers. Executive Order 36 establishes the College & Career Ready Task Force which will bring together members of the education community and the business community in a united effort to strengthen the preparation of students to enter the workforce.
Governor Bentley is asking business leaders to partner with educators and routinely discuss the types of skills that are needed in today’s workplace. According to the governor’s office, representatives of K-12 schools, two- and four-year colleges and the business community will work together on the task force. The cooperative is expected to help the state offer a more coordinated approach to workforce development.
According to the governor’s office, the task force is not a new governance structure or decision-making authority. A press release says the task force is instead a gathering of business and education professionals who will work to make practical recommendations on ways to strengthen workforce development.
According to Executive Order 36, Governor Bentley will appoint 16 individuals to the new College & Career Ready Task Force which is expected to hold it’s first meeting within a month.
