Birmingham police have arrested and charged a driver in a double fatal vehicle accident with two counts of manslaughter. Brandon Levoy Davis, 21 of Birmingham, is being held on a $30,000 bond. He is charged in the weekend accident that killed Kayla Nicole Jackson, 21 of Birmingham and her young son, Zion Milik Jackson, 3. Davis was the fiance and father to Kayla and Zion. The accident occurred Jan. 6 at Jefferson Avenue and Jefferson Avenue and 24th st. S.W. The truck the three were riding in impacted the bridge there so hard that the structure sustained damage. Authorities say that excessive speed is a factor in the accident. Jeanne Jackson Smith, Kayla's aunt, says she's hurt to learn what Davis is charged with in the accident. "This is senseless. There is no reason why my niece and nephew should not be standing in this room with us today," Smith said. "To even put your child and another human beig in danger like that."
Smith and Kayla's sister Louvenia are happy Davis was charged. and they're not surprisedhe's accused of such a thing. They say they never approved of the couple's relationship. "I think the crime deserves the punishment at this point in the investigation, I believe justice will be served," Smith said. Still, the family is left with grief and anger as they prepare to bury a young mother and her son. "Not that I want anyone to die but why did he live and they had to go...he has to live with this ...think about what he done. Him getting life I'd be happy with that," Smith said.
