Ragland police say they have recently arrested and charged a teenager and a 22-year-old in connection to a fatal accident that killed a Ragland teen in October 2012. The teen, 17-year-old Justin Castleberry has been charged as an adult with reckless murder. Willie Jarod Scott, 22, faces felony charges for allegedly buying beer for Castleberry before the incident. Ragland Police Chief James Brown says alcohol played a role in the accident that killed 16-year-old Kristan Cox the night of Oct. 22. A blood test showed that Castleberry had been drinking the night of the accident and Chief Brown adds that investigators believe Castleberry was driving at a high rate of speed when the car left the road and struck a tree on Providence Road. Cox was ejected from the car and killed. Another teenaged passenger was injured. Chief Brown says there were witnesses at a local grocery store who saw Scott buy a case of beer, which gave police enough evidence to charge him. If convicted, Scott faces up to three years in prison. Castleberry could face up to life in prison for his charge.
