A Boaz man has been charged with theft and burglary after a homeowner allegedly caught him trying to steal jewelry, officials say. The Etowah County Sheriff's Office says the suspect, 48-year-old Jay Karl Parrish, ran out of the home after the homeowner walked in on the burglary. Parrish then backed into the resident's vehicle when escaping. The homeowner was able to give deputies a description of the van Parrish was driving.
Officials say the burglary happened at a home on Broadwell Road in Boaz. "Parrish is charged with one count of third degree burglary, which is a felony, and one count of third degree theft of property and one count of second degree criminal mischief, both are misdemeanors," Investigator Jason Argo said. Parrish is being held in the Marshal County Jail. He has previously been charged in Etowah County for public intoxication, disorderly conduct, third degree assault and harassing communications, according to the sheriff's office website.
