An Ashville High School volunteer and part-time assistant coach was arrested Thursday on allegations he engaged in an inappropriate sexual relationship with a female student in the St. Clair County School System.
26-year-old Raymond Mitchell Praytor is charged with a school employee engaging in a sex act or deviant sexual intercourse with a student under the age of 19. His bond is set at $50,000.
St. Clair County Schools Superintendent Jenny Seals released the following statement: "I understand that St. Clair County law enforcement officials have arrested Mitch Praytor on allegations that he engaged in an inappropriate sexual relationship with a student of the St. Clair County School System. Clearly, the charges against Mr. Praytor are very troubling. Words simply cannot describe my deep disappointment in these allegations. The St. Clair County School System has cooperated fully- and will continue to cooperate fully- with law enforcement officials during their investigation of this matter." Seals said Praytor began volunteering and serving as a part-time assistant coach in July but has never been an employee of the St. Clair County School System. He is no longer allowed to volunteer with the school system.
The investigation is ongoing.
