An ALDOT spokesman says that while the state transitions to a new traffic monitoring system, commuters may see odd traffic light patterns. Some commuters swear there's something strange going on with the traffic lights on Highway 280. They say the lights will change to red, even if there's no one waiting to cross at an intersection. Ronnie Johnson and his wife Artimise live off Valleydale Road and they've noticed a big change. Ronnie heads to work in Homewood around 4 or 5 a.m. and he's noticed lights are suddenly turning red at intersections with no cross traffic. S instead of the smooth sailing down Highway 280 it's takeing him a lot longer to get to work. "At that time of morning, there should be no traffic out here and you should be able to go one, two three, but then when you're going down the road, something stops you, and there's no traffic at all," Johnson said. Brian Davis with ALDOT confirms there have been some major changes to the lights on Highway 280 because the state is transitioning from a new monitoring system. Right now, the new system is monitoring traffic patterns and Davis says in about a week and a half it will adjust to traffic.
