Update
The victims of Friday night's accident have been identified as 59-year-old Walter Smith and 2-year-old Noah Smith. The father and son left the Pinson Valley High School football game around 9:10 p.m. when the two crossed Highway 75 and were struck by a car driven by a 60-year-old.
Noah Smith was transported by ambulance to St. Vincent's East, where the child was pronounced dead. His father, Walter, was airlifted to UAB, where he died early Saturday morning.
The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office reports the driver of the vehicle is cooperating with the investigation "in every way."
