Well-known Birmingham orthopedic surgeon Dr. Larry Lemak has been diagnosed with tongue cancer. The news was announced on his practice's Facebook page. According to the post, Dr. Lemak's tumor was caught early during a routine check up and he will seek treatment at UAB. This type of cancer is the seventh most common form among men in the U.S. Dr. Lemak's colleagues will support his patients while he is undergoing treatment and recovering. The Facebook post says that Dr. Lemak's treatment will occur over the next seven to eight weeks and "he will be focused on 3 things (1) Trusting in the Lord and the power of prayers, (2) Getting well with the help and support of his family, and (3) Keeping his faith and spirits high so he can recover and continue working in a profession he loves."
The practice will post periodic updates to their Facebook page on Dr. Lemak's progress.
