Lawyers in Madison County are offering free legal assistance for homeless veterans.
The 3-day event called Operation Stand Down in Huntsville will also provide homeless vets with medical help, clothing, haircuts, food and showers. It's scheduled for Oct. 19-21.
Angela Rawls of the Madison County Volunteer Lawyers Group told Al.com that many veterans have benefit issues to resolve with the federal government. She said they sometimes need help in other areas, such as wage garnishments, collection attempts and family law.
She said the lawyers participating in the program will take legal cases or refer them to the Volunteer Lawyer's office, which has 320 participating attorneys.
