No. 1 Alabama took down Missouri 42-10 in Columbia on Saturday despite the weather. Running back Eddie Lacy ran wild against the Tigers and he started by scampering 72 yards for a score on Alabama's first possession. He finished with 178 yards on 18 carries and three touchdowns.
Freshman T.J. Yeldon was right behind him in the stat book, rushing for 144 yards on 18 carries and two touchdowns. Quarterback AJ McCarron had Crimson Tide fans holding their breath in the third quarter after he limped off the field following a sack. He received treatment and was fitted with a knee brace before returning the very next series. McCarron went 16 of 21 passing for 167 yards. His current streak of completions without an interception continues. Missouri was being manhandled by Alabama in the first half, but thanks to a lightning strike followed by suspension of play, they were able to go into the lockerroom in the middle of the second quarter to regroup. And that they did, at least for a moment. Once play resumed and after Jeremy Shelley kicked the extra point for an Alabama touchdown scored before the delay, Missouri sophomore Marcus Murphy returned the ensuing kickoff 98 yards for a touchdown, breathing a bit of life back into the Tigers. But just before halftime as Missouri looked poised to score again, Alabama defensive end Adrian Hubbard sprinted unblocked to blindside backup quarterback Corbin Berkstresser, forcing a fumble that was eventually recovered by his teammate C.J. Mosely. Gary Pinkel's plans to upset the Tide were spoiled, and the beatdown continued in the second half.
Missouri was held to just 152 yards on offense compared to Alabama's 522. With the win, Alabama moved to 6-0 on the year, 3-0 in the SEC. Missouri fell to 3-4 and is still without a conference victory.
