The man suspected of shooting multiple people at a pool party in Auburn was set for arraignment in court Thursday. Desmonte Leonard, 22, has already been indicted on one count of capital murder - two or more persons, two counts of attempted murder, one charge of first degree assault, and two charges of second degree assault. Leonard is accused of using a .40 caliber pistol on June 9th at the University Heights Apartment Complex. According to a witness, someone threatened to kill Leonard and a fight ensued. Reports indicate the fight started over a woman. Leonard allegedly fired shots, killing Demario Pitts, and former Auburn football players Ladarious Phillips and Edward Christian. Another victim, John Robertson was shot in the head and survived. Xavior Moss and Eric Mack also managed to survive injuries.
Additional indictments filed indicate two other victims were shot at, but not injured that night. Deangelo Benton, a suspended Auburn football player and Turquorius Vines are named in those indictments as victims. A witness stated during the first court hearing, that Benton threatened to kill Leonard before the shooting occurred.
No trial date has been set.
