In their first SEC contest, the University of Alabama football team steamrolled over the University of Arkansas. The Crimson Tide started the scoring in the game after Arkansas botched a punt. The loss of 31 yards plus a 6-yard penalty against Arkansas put the Tide a the 6-yard line. A quick rush by Eddie Lacy covered the 6 yards and Jeremy Shelly tacked on the extra point. Arkansas followed with a 7-play drive to the Alabama 24, but was forced to go for a field goal. Razorback Zach Hocker was not able to make the 41-yard kick with the ball bouncing off of the upright. At the beginning of the second quarter, Alabama added on a field goal with Cade Foster closing up a 9-play drive with a 51-yard field goal. This set Alabama's score at 10 with 14:10 remaining in the second quarter. Arkansas began to make headway against the Tide defense on their following possession, but an interception by Alabama's Vinnie Sunseri took away the Razorback momentum. Alabama took over the ball at their own 33 and covered the remaining 67-yards in 6 plays. An A.J. McCarron pass to Amari Cooper went 20 yards to the endzone to give the Tide a score of 17 with a Shelley extra point.
Halfway through the second quarter, Alabama saw another attempt at adding points in the form of a 52-yard field goal from Cade Foster. The attempt was missed, but it turned out okay for the Tide. On the following play, Alabama's Ha'Sean Clinton-Dix grabbed a Brandon Allen pass and returned it to the Arkansas 3-yard-line. The Razorback defense held out for 2 plays, but Eddie Lacy eventually broke through on a 1-yard rush. Shelley's extra point set the Tide score at 24 to go into halftime. Alabama came back from the locker room with a hunger to play. After receiving the kickoff for a touchback, the Tide drove 75 yards in 6 plays. Gaining the touchdown was Eddie Lacy with a 10-yard rush at the 12:10 mark. Shelley's extra point was good. During the kickoff to Arkansas, Razorback Dennis Johnson returned the ball 22 yards, but fumbled and the ball was recovered by Alabama's Cade Foster at the Arkansas 27. The Tide defense returned to the field and crossed the goal line after two plays. A.J. McCarron threw a pass to Amari Cooper in the first play for 26 yards in the first play and T.J. Yeldon got the touchdown with a 1-yard rush in the second play. Shelley again made the extra point to bring Alabama's score to 38. In the fourth quarter, Alabama added to the score with another touchdown. This time, Kenyan Drake entered the endzone on a 12-yard rush with 11:32 remaining in the game. Jeremy Shelley's kick brought the score up to 45. This was not the end of the scoring as Bama added another touchdown with 5:33 remaining in the game. QB Blake Sims faked a handoff before easily rushing 27-yards into the endzone. Shelley added another extra point to put the score at 52. This wrapped up the game with Arkansas remaining scoreless. Next week, Alabama plays Florida Atlantic at home. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m.
