The Auburn Tigers found themselves outmatched against the Mississippi State Bulldogs on Saturday for their second loss this season.
The two teams seemed defensively ready in the first quarter. Mississippi State attempted a 36-yard field goal on their first possession, but the Devon Bell kick was not good.
In the second quarter, Auburn was the first team to score. A 12-play drive ended with Cody Parkey kicking a 23-yard field goal with 9:40 remaining.
The Bulldogs added their own points to the board in the next possession. QB Tyler Russell landed a pass to Marcus Green for a 30-yard touchdown. Devon Bell tacked on the extra point to set the score 7-3 for Mississippi State.
Coming back from halftime, the Auburn Tiger Onterio McCalebb returned the kickoff 100 yards for an amazing touchdown. Cody Parkey's kick brought Auburn up to 10.
Mississippi State did not seemed deterred by Auburn's ferocity after halftime. The bulldogs answered with an 8-play drive to cover 75 yards. The drive ended with a Russell 13-yard pass to Chad Bumphis for the touchdown at the 11:35 mark. Devon Bell kicked the extra point to bring the score to 14-10.
Auburn next possession did not go favorably for the Tigers and they were forced to punt in four down. Mississippi State then took the ball for a 10-play drive to cover 58 yards to another touchdown. Bulldog Marcus Green carried a 3-yard pass from Tyler Russell across the goal line to bring Mississippi State's total to 21.
In the fourth quarter, Mississippi continued to pull ahead. With 12:33 seconds remaining in the game, the Bulldogs covered 62 yards in 3 plays and snagged another touchdown. The third play saw LaDarius Perkins rush for 21 yards into the endzone. The Devon Bell extra point boosted Mississippi State to 28 points to Auburn's 10.
This wrapped up the scoring in the game. Auburn goes on to play Louisiana-Monroe at home. Kickoff is set for 11:21 a.m.
