This weekend marks a heartbreaking anniversary for the Anniston Police Department. Officer Justin Sollohub was shot one year ago and died the next day from his wounds. The suspect charged with his murder, Joshua Russell, is still awaiting trial. Today, officers observed a moment of silence. Afterward, the honor guard placed a wreath at his memorial in Centennial Park. The memorial is just one way his fellow officers keep his memory alive for their department, and the community. "There's not a day that goes by that we don't think about him and we don't talk about him, and he's kind of forever part of this police department," Captain Shane Denham with the Anniston Police Department said. Denham says the past year since Sollohub's death has flown by. "It's amazing to all of us, that it's been a year," he added.
The new building that will house the police department, the jail and municipal court will be called the Justin Sollohub Justice Center.
