The superintendent of Leeds City Schools said his office has fully cooperated with a police investigation into allegations that one of his teachers sent sexually explicit text messages to a student.
"We always take the safety and security of our students very seriously," said Superintendent John Moore.
Leeds police today announced the arrest of 32-year-old Curtis Lloyd. He is charged with a school employee having sex with a student under the age of 19, a misdemeanor. Police Chief Byron Jackson said there is no indication of physical contact.
Lloyd is a physical education teacher at the elementary school, and coaches wrestling at the middle and high schools, Moore said.
The superintendent said he placed Lloyd on administrative leave on Aug. 9, as soon as police contacted him that day to say the teacher was the subject of a criminal investigation.
Authorities say Lloyd sent sexually explicit text messages to a female high school student.
He turned himself in to authorities Friday and was later released from jail on $6,000 bond.
