A man who abandoned a woman and her two children in a burning car while fleeing from authorities in Jefferson County is still on the loose, officials say. The suspect is identified as Eudres Braxton, a 37-year-old from Bessemer. Officials say he has several outstanding warrants from multiple law enforcement agencies. When a Jefferson County deputy tried to pull Braxton over on Saturday around 11:30 a.m., he fled and led deputies on a short chase. The incident began in the 4200 block of Candlebrook Lane in the Eastern Valley community of Jefferson County. Authorities believe he fled because of outstanding traffic warrants from Vestavia Hills and Bessemer. During the chase, Braxton's vehicle caught on fire. The car started burning while deputies chased the suspect on 4th Ave. SW in Bessemer. Braxton pulled over and took off on foot, leaving his girlfriend and her two children behind in the car. The woman and children were able to get out of the burning vehicle without being injured. The Bessemer Fire Department responded to the scene and put the fire out. Braxton managed to elude authorities but now has several warrants out for his arrest. "Now he has got charges of reckless endangerment, attempting to elude, reckless driving and giving false information, obstruction of justice with a false identity," Sgt. Jack Self with the sheriff's office said. Braxton's other charges were mostly misdemeanor charges but he faces a felony charge of giving false information. Sgt. Self says he also faces tough questions from his girlfriend. "I'm sure he has some explaining to do, why he would do something like that." Self said. Officials believe Braxton is in the Letson Farm area of Bessemer. Anyone with information about Braxton's whereabouts is asked to contact the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office at 205-325-1450.
