Gadsden police are looking for suspects in two separate armed robberies that happened on Friday and Saturday nights. In the first incident, an employee was robbed at gunpoint at the Short Cut Food Mart in the 800 block of South 11th Street. The robbery happened around 9 p.m. on Friday, July 27.
Captain Regina May says the suspect approached the employee from behind while he was outside at the door of the store. The suspect, described as a black male wearing a black hoodie, forced the employee to go back inside the store and empty the register. The suspect took around $100 from the register, then forced the employee to empty his pockets as well and stole another $25 from him, May said. The suspect left the store and fled in a vehicle that was waiting on him outside. The suspect is still at large.
The second robbery happened around 7:20 p.m. Saturday, July 28, at the convenience store Tienda La Esperanza located at 1600 Litchfield Avenue. Police say a black male wearing all black entered the store and the store employee, who realized what was about to happen, tried to run out the front door. The employee stopped when the suspect fired his gun in her direction, and the rounds hit the door, Captain May said. The employee then opened the register and the suspect took around $300. The suspect in this case is also still on the loose. Anyone with information about either case is asked to call Gadsden police at 256-549-4630.
