Investigators say a 9-year-old Gardendale child drowned in a Haleyville pond Sunday while trying to save her younger brother from drowning.
Brandi Odom, a student at Gardendale Elementary, was visiting her grandparent's house with her two younger brothers. After returning to the house from watching a movie, they decided to wade in the pond behind the house.
One of the brothers went too far, and investigators said Brandi tried to save him. She drowned shortly before 6 pm.
"Right now, she's in the arms of Jesus, because he's promised to take care of her," said Odom.
