Disturbing testimony in hearing for Tracey Grissom murder case

A judge on Friday said there was enough evidence to send the Tracey Grissom murder case to a grand jury. District Judge Jim Guin made the declaration Friday morning during a court hearing in Tuscaloosa. Grissom is charged with shooting and killing her ex-husband, Hunter Grissom, May 15 at Lake Tuscaloosa. She never testified, but her attorney claims Hunter Grissom is dead today because of years of abuse he inflicted on her. "Hunter Grissom has threatened to kill her. She was compelled to have a gun," according to Warren Freeman, Grissom's attorney.
Freeman claims Hunter Grissom abused his wife for years. He was arrested on multiple charges against his ex-wife back in November 2010. Arrest records say he tied her up with a belt before dragging her into a bedroom, then beat and raped her. He claims that wasn't the first time Hunter assaulted her.
"The previous rapes to that and the beatings that took place previous, all of those things are factors in the event that took place May 15," says Freeman. Grissom's hearing lasted about an hour and a half. She never testified but a homicide investigator and two eyewitnesses took the stand. Homicide investigator Toby Banks testified at the hearing. He took Grissom's statement after the shooting and said Tracey Grissom told him Hunter Grissom, "ruined me financially." Banks said Grissom also said Hunter Grissom raped and assaulted her in the past. Banks also testified about witnesses he interviewed, who told him Hunter Grissom asked them to call police when he saw his ex-wife. The two never spoke, but Tracey Grissom told Banks Hunter Grissom "flipped her off" or made some obscene gesture before she shot him. Banks said Tracey Grissom told investigators she fired her gun until it was empty. Two brothers, William and Dale Dockery, who worked for Hunter Grissom, also testified. They say Tracey was in a car parked at the boat landing for twenty to twenty five minutes. Dale Dockery testified Friday that Tracey shot Hunter in the back. Dockery said he froze while she was shooting. "As she pulled up, Hunter realized it was her and when he turned around she shot him in the back. When she went back to the car, I thought she was going to get more bullets to shoot us, too," Dale Dockery said. William Dockery testified before the shooting, Hunter asked him to call the police after seeing Tracey. The Attorney General's office is prosecuting the case because Tuscaloosa D.A. Tommy Smith feels there is a conflict on interest because his office represented Tracey Grissom in the rape case against Hunter.
