Former Alabama governor Don Siegelman could learn on Wednesday when he will be re-sentenced for a bribery conviction. Siegelman's appeal to the conviction was recently denied to go in front of the U.S. Supreme Court.
A conference call is scheduled before Judge Mark Fuller that will possibly set a date for the sentencing. Siegelman is free on bond pending appeal after serving nine months of his original seven year sentence. He was convicted of taking a bribe from then-CEO of HealthSouth, Richard Scrushy, for Scrushy's appointment to the hospital regulatory board. In related news, the attorney who successfully defended casino developer Milton McGregor in his bribery case is asking to join Siegelman's team. Joe Espy has filed a notice to join the defense for the sentencing.
